The Bills Flame - Friday, October 4th

Davante Adams Speculation, Injury Reports, and more

Good Morning! It’s Friday, October 4th. With the 3-1 Bills traveling to Houston this weekend to face the also 3-1 Texans, we’re expecting a star studded game.

Here’s what you need to know for the Bills going into this weekend.

Bills Injury Report

Thursday of a game week means we get our second injury report of the week. Thursdays give us more of an idea of who might play, and who might not, for both teams.

First, with the Bills:

Bills Injury Report for Thursday, October 3rd, 2024

What does this tell us?

This can tell us a lot of things. It’s huge to see Taron Johnson and Terrel Bernard being Limited in back-to-back practices. They will truly be up in the air for Sunday, with expectations they will be back for Week 6 at Metlife Stadium.

Khalil Shakir being out for a second day in a row with a high ankle sprain is worrisome. As @BangedupBills on X pointed out, every Bills player that has suffered a known high ankle sprain has missed at least one week. If Shakir is out, look for guys like KJ Hamler and Curtis Samuel to take on increased roles this weekend @ Houston.

Dion Dawkins being Limited is a good sign for Thursday. According to Sean McDermott, he sustained the injury last Sunday night in Baltimore, and played through it. If Dion can’t go, Bills listed backup LT is Ryan Van Demark, but we may see some further movement.

Ed Oliver was also limited for what looks like an injury suffered during practice. Obviously, practice injuries are not a good sign towards playing that week, but the fact that he was limited could give us some hope. The injury report tomorrow, as well as official game designations, could give us some more information.

Can the Bills afford Davante Adams?

The Bills are officially in the mix for Raiders star WR Davante Adams, according to Ian Rapoport. The asking price is reportedly a 2nd-round pick. The Bills have two of those this year, after the 2nd-round pick the Texans traded to us for Diggs via Minnesota. One of those could be in play.

However, the Bills have no cap space. They have virtually no cap space that can be created through converting salaries to signing bonuses either. This is a year where they’re eating cap space, with $31M in dead cap going towards Stefon Diggs. This means the Bills need the Raiders to take on a good portion of Adams’ salary for the rest of the year. The Bills would obviously have to pay a premium, draft capital wise (we have 10 picks this year), but if we see another lackluster performance from the Wide Receivers this Sunday, maybe Beane will pull the trigger.

Have a great Friday. See y’all tomorrow.
